Wheatfield Remand Prison is a prison for adult males with a capacity of 650 prisoners and had the highest prison population in Ireland in 2011. It is a closed, medium security prison. The governor of Wheatfield Prison is Mr. William Connolly.
Wheatfield Prison operates a visiting by appointment system. Each prisoner can nominate up to eight visitors per month. Visitors then book an visiting time by either calling +353 1 6209401 or by dropping into the visitors centre in person. All nominated visitors must present valid (in date) photographic ID on each and every visit to the Prison i.e Passport, Driving Licence or Garda ID Card.
Free car parking is available accross the road.
