About Ross Castle
Ross Castle is located at Ross Road in Killarney
, Co. Kerry.
Ross Castle was built around 1420 and was the last stronghold under Irish control to be taken by Cromwellian forces in 1653. Located on the banks of Lough Leane in Killarney National Park, it was the ancestral home to the O'Donoghue clan and the Irish believed that the castle could never be taken until a warship could swim on the lake, which they considered to be impossible.
