This is an old broadleaf woodland that is currently being restored. Species that can be found here include oak, birch, beech, rowan and holly. There is a loop walk that offers a number of viewing points including great views of Sliabh Mish on clear day. Wildlife includes rabbit, badger hedgehog and several spieces of bat.

Located near the barriers is a mass rock. A local Dominican priest, Fr. Thaddeus Moriarty, was arrested here by Cromwellian soldiers on the 15th August 1653 for celebrating mass. He was charged with treason, imprisoned in Ross Castle and later hung at Martyr's Hill in Killarney.
