The Kenmare Lace & Design Centre is located on the second floor of the Tourist Information Centre.
The exquisite skill of lace making was brought to Kenmare in 1861, when the Poor Clare nuns came to teach. The nuns came just after the famine and the locals were desperate to embrace new skills to gain employment.
The aim of the centre is to promote the lace and design of Kenmare and Ireland. Kenmare Lace and other laces are displayed, demonstrated and sold here. You can also view vintage and antique pieces on the back wall including one antique lace from the Convent of the Poor Clares Kenmare.
