About Doonagore Castle
Doonagore Castle is located at Doonagore in Doolin
, Co. Clare.
Doonagore is a 16th century Tower House with a walled enclosure. It overlooks Doolin and is used as a navigational point for boast approaching Doolin harbour.
In 1588 after the Spanish Armada failed to invade England, a Spanish ship was wrecked off the coast and 170 survivors were arrested by the high sherriff of Co. Clare. They were hanged at the castle and buried at Cnocan an Crochaire near Doolin.
The castle is private property and not open to the public.
