About Crag Cave

Crag Cave is located at Crag in Castleisland , Co. Kerry.

Located in Castleisland, Crag Cave is thought to be at least one million years old. The cave is packed full of stalactites and stalagmites.

The caves are formed of elevated limestone rock and there is approximately 4km of surveyed passages over two levels. The caves were only properly explored for the first time in 1981 and between 1987 and 1989 it was made accessible to the public with the building of a shaft, pathways, railings and a lighting system.

It was opened in May 1989 and is the 6th longest cave in the Republic of Ireland.

There are guided tours on site, a gift shop, tea-rooms and a childrens' play area.

As the entrance to the caves is in an evelated position there are spectacular views of the surrounding area including the McGillicuddy Reeks and Tralee Bay.
