Caherconnell Stone Fort & Visitor Centre in Carron , Co. Clare.

This is an exceptionally well-preserved defenisve stone ring fort and it is thought to have been inhabited from 400-1,200 AD.

The fort is approx. 140 feet in external diameter and almost circular. The walls are 12 feet thick and range from 6 to 14 feet high.

There is a visitor centre which offers a 13-minute audio visual presentation that gives a background into the history and archaeology of the Burren, the fort and other local megalithic tombs. There is a coffee shop and craft shop adjoining the centre.

Daily, 10am to 6pm, July and August
