About Blessington Lake

Blessington Lake in Blessington, Co. Wexford.

Blessington Lake is a man-made reservoir, known as Poulaphouca, constructed in the late 1930s, early 1940s with the purpose of supplying water and electricity to the Dublin region. The River Liffey was dammed at Pollaphuca to the west just on the Wicklow/Kildare county border.

The reservoir is now a designated Special Protection Area by the National Parks and Wildlife Service, and is of international importance for its Greylag Goose population.

The lake also has an extensive range of water sports and facilities at hand.
